Question gdesklets installation requirements

As a newbie i have forgotten the commmand to
see if and what versions of software are installed on my computer.

now what if i know the file name what can i use, also the kpackage is not avail it seems. The RPM -qa worked but does that only list programs that were installed from an rpm or does it list everything?
