Gconf Error : cannot open Nautilus
 

Hi
After logging in as a root (also as normal user) I get the following error that does not let me to open Nautilus.
I am giving u the full error description below.

Gconf Error:
No database available to save your configuration:
Unable to store a value at key
'apps/nautilus/defaults/novice/apps/nautilus/preferences/show_hidden_files,' as the configuration server has no available database. There are two main reasons for this problem:
1) your configuration path file does not contain any databases or wasn't found or 2) OAF mistakenly created 2 gconfd processes. If u have two gconfd processes (or had two at the time the second was launched), then it is an OAF bug, not a gCOnf issue. Logging out, killing oafd, gconfd, and logging back in may help. As always check the users.*syslog for details on problems gconfd encountered. All further errors show only on terminal.

Well i guess it all started when i changed the file permissions of my home directory, to 777. Now when ever i try to run gnome.... or even a gnome program from KDE, like Totem, gnomemeeting etc , it gives the following error message:
Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://www.gnome.org/projects/gconf/ for information.

(Details -
1: IOR file '/home/fadain/.gconfd/lock/ior' not opened successfully, no gconfd located: No such file or directory
2: IOR file '/home/fadain/.gconfd/lock/ior' not opened successfully, no gconfd located: No such file or directory)

and then the application crashes. What should i do? What do file permissions have to do with this error?
(I am using Mandrake 9.2, Gnome 2)

chmod 555 give read and write permission

what is ls -la command when u run in home directory.

what is ownship of yr /hom/directory

Its due to Permission Problem. or File Does not Exits and if you run Gconf then it will try to create configuration file but due to permission it won't allow to create any file so i prefer you to give the following Permission to that Directory ..

# chmod 770 -R /home/fadain/.gconfd/

What about graphically? (Just click on nautilus browser). It's error too?
