ok my linux distro is LinSpire: linspire.com

ok... can someone please tell me how to install gcc, i'm like 100% new to linux and i'm still stuck with basic commands.. like can someone print out a instruction for my distro so i can install gcc as a compiler and get on with my life?

nuka_t 08-19-2004 01:31 AM

lol, double click the cnr icon and click on gcc.

would you like me to give that to you in a pdf or a microsoft word document or do you think youll be fine?

AznX 08-19-2004 01:34 AM

AznX 08-19-2004 01:35 AM

so quick reply, like this active site.. give what ? do u mean installation help for that operating system.. if it is.. thx!!

nuka_t 08-19-2004 01:37 AM

i dont think its possbile to install gcc then. how can you compile somehting from source if you dont have a source compiler? id asssume youd use cnr, or apt or rpms to install it, but i dont know about this case. i think paypal lets you make a paypal credit card, if youre willing to pay for cnr, then thats the way to go. if not, id suggest getting another distro.

o_ dam.... thats not good... there goes my new linux distro... wasted my time installing it...... what would u recommend me for another linux system that is good for a webserver?

AznX 08-19-2004 01:41 AM

or does anyone have a compiled gcc in .deb so i can use it!! ARG LINSPIRE STINKS NOW..

nuka_t 08-19-2004 01:41 AM

im not 100 percent sure about what i said, so dont go reinstalling a distro right now. see if someone lese can help you. otherwise, just about any distro will work as a webserver.

edit: linspire cant use debian packages AFAIK. i heard they cut out apt, but im not sure if that means .deb too.

AznX 08-19-2004 01:44 AM

AWWW MAN!!! LINSPIRE really got me fired up when it was released in 4.5, then i downloaded the iso from linspire.com then errors start taking apart my trust in linspire.. now linspire is a thing that reuiqres cnr technology.... now what u call that, a free will? aww man... thx 4 helping....

AznX 08-19-2004 01:54 AM

actually is it possible that i could install GIMP [something close to photoshop, but its free] or aMule [something like emule but for other platforms & its free]

can i install those 2 programs for linspire without having the need to install gcc or is it not possible again?

nuka_t 08-19-2004 01:55 AM

i dont know about amule, but i would suggest using hte azureus bittorent client instead because it dosent need to be installed. you just run it from the folder. gimp on the other hand will not work.

AznX 08-19-2004 02:03 AM

i've used azeurs b4.. its good.. but still.. bt rite now doesnt have some files that i need.. i've tried searching through the most pop. sites of bt... but nothing returned.. but on the other hand.. amule gave me the results that i want. owell... there goes my "free of MS" plan for the year... now its over so quick within a week.. lol..
