Gateway laptop

Trying to install mint on gateway ma7 from usb. I can't get the option to start from usb on bios. The usb shows shows up on the computer. I am relatively new to this and I am in need of serious help. I have the 32 bit on the usb and can't get it to let me run the os from bios what am I missing.

Have you tried this?
(I know it says "PC", but it would be a similar procedure on a laptop presumably)

You need to get to the "boot menu" from the BIOS, then boot off that USB - assuming the USB is bootable.

How did you image the USB with the ISO image of Linux Mint if it still doesn't work?

Opened mint won't install?

Got mint to open when trying to install says there isn't enough space. Reopened windows and am deleting as much as I can and going to try again. To give insight as to how new at this I am I had to rearrange the boot order and I kept trying the mouse . The moment I used keys and changed the order I felt like the smartest man alive.😁

Have you chosen to keep the Windows partition rather than "use the whole disk"? If there's nothing you want from the Windows partition then selecting " use the whole disk" is probably the easiest way.

How much memory is installed in the laptop? For Mint 1GB is minimum but you really need 2GB. Otherwise I would suggest a lighter weight distribution.

Do you want to dual boot or replace Windows with Mint?

In the OS installer you are using.
Perhaps you ought to read up on installing Linux?

At the risk of sounding dumb where do I find this. Also that you for helping I've been at this for 8 hours just to be able to see the Linux logo appear on the screen.

It's well worth reading, or watching on YouTube, installing Linux. You do need a certain amount of knowledge to do so -- it's not complicated but does mean learning things.

Michaelk I got to the live screen and clicked on the disc then it wouldn't take me further. So I turned off by holding power button than used bios to open windows. When trying to open mint it appears to start normal screen shows loading. After that it turns grey with _ flashing in upper left corner then screen turns black with same symbol. How do I re open that screen. I tried opening in compatible mode and laptop froze, not sure how to get that to reappear?
