gamma-settings in Mandrake 9.1/KDE

My setup:
Mandrake 9.1 - glitch free installation
KDE Desktop Environment
Dell 4100 Inspiron Laptop
nVidia GeForce graphics card

Please bear with a complete linux newbie. I am long time windows user, but I am getting quite excited about Mandrake. Under my windows installation I have had to correct the gamma color settings. It looks like this action has to be performed for my linux partition as well.

I have been unable to find any interface for correcting the gamma settings in KDE or Mandrake. So I have done some research into this issue and found out that I need a plug in kalled KGamma. So I downloaded it and tried to install it. The installation failed as x include paths could't be found. It does appear that I have a path entitled usr/X11R6/include so I tried to enter that, but the shell window said that such a file or directory does not exist (although I can browse to this in the quick browse window).

So I guess my question is this: Is there an easy (for a newbie) and fairly fuss free way off getting access to the gamma settings parameters in Mandrake 9.1?

I hope that I have explained my problem well enough, and that it complies with board etiquette. Any help is MUCH appreaciated!

Thank you very much

You can get at gamma thru KDE Control Center, but I'm not sure if that actually changes the setup or if it only affects KDE. It's been a while since I've played with 9.1

Thanks for the reply. I have been through every menu and sub menu in the KDE control center, but there does not seem to be any gamma settings, or other display parameters except screen resolution.

I am at work right now, so no linux, but as far as I can remember, Mandrake 9.1 has the xgamma utility.

If it is not already installed, it should be on the MDK9.1 disks.

man xgamma in a terminal to find out about it. It can adjust R G B gammas separately, or all three together (see the man page). It is a console command (not a GUI thing), so you have to type the command in a console, trying different settings until you get them right, but it works just fine. You need to run it every time you login, or arrange for this to be done automatically, and I cannot now remember where I ended up putting the command (~/.login maybe?)

Hope this helps

Mine is under System -> Monitor Gamma, But I'm running 3.2 not sure were it could be in yours or if it is, as I said It's been a while since I've used 9.1.
