games from the prompt?
Just got slackware installed. Perfect. Thanks. I'd recommend for newbies, if you can read; I've learnt so much just installing and reading their Book...
Anyway, what I'm looking for now is some really good games for the kids. preferably without the need for a window maker, ie run just from the prompt. The computer doesn't have an internet connection so Java type website games are out of the question (for now). Or big libraries of small games. That would be cool too. I'm running the computer without a GUI installed so that I'm forced to learn the command prompt but the kids want to play games so Thanks guys! |
install kde or gnome.. they come with games. You can turn KDE/gnome off and on whenever u want.
Good Luck |
I think alot of games can run without x, just need to run the right command to get it to load up, in fact I'm not sure what games would require X :p Super noob myself, for some games for linux, I always check happypenguin.org. You can sort by type and go to childrens games or just browse around, frozen bubble is a nice little fun game for kids.

Adventure maybe ... it should be in /usr/games/adventure if you installed the games package. The other games in /usr/games are worth a look too.

Happypenguin is such a good site! Thanks!

Only text based games will run without X. X is necessary for all graphics to be renedered. That said, you can edit your system so that X is run on demand FOR the game and not by itself, with say KDE or Gnome running also. It can speed up the games and the system response, but is such a pain that I've never tried it.
