Games and stuff!
 

This is probably going to sound like another stupid question, but, with all the games stuff that comes with mandrake 8.2 (mostly, I suspect, common to a lot of the different distro's) where are the "instructions" on how to play (the obvious ones i.e. tuxpuck and tron, I have managed to sus, but the rest, well ??????)

John, you are having some problems because your brain is so full, not because it's so small.

Some of them will actually have man pages, so something like man tuxpuck, might yield some answers. Others you may find have directions/instructions built in, you just have to figure out which key to press to get to them. Try F1 and the H key, and possibly the ? key. These are common for help files.

I'll give them a try, I suppose that it is because I'm used to the "window$" way of doing things i.e. they way "they" tend to put help files and instructions in a "help" section.

It's mainly due to tolerant and understanding types like yourself and neo77777 who don't seem to mind nuggets like me asking what are apparently "no-brainer" questions.

I have, this morning (got two consecutive days off from work!) found a goodie as far as my how do I........ thread at the register about securing stuff. neo77777 has supplied some excellent info about that as well, though I am having to keep reading it to be able to comprehend what he is telling me to do (I follow what he says but?????????????).

as far as the games are concerned the tuxpuck, well it's just a computerised version of something I used to play when I was a kid, the tron game is obvious to anyone who has seen the film, but, there are loads of others one that I have managed to use but am still at a loss as to how I drive the "character" called something like "net's eye falcon hack dogs bollocks" or somesuch, I can move the character round, but there seems to be no instructions as to how you pick up the extra facilities/lives/weapons etc, and that's what I find annoying.

As I have said to you a number of times, in my previous life as a window$ net surf drone, life was relatively uncomplicated, because I was using the same box for about 5 years, it wasn't capable enough to play many of the up to date games, so I didn't play any of them (mainly lack of money - you should have seen the crap I got from my partner when I updated the computer - she gave me hell for about a fortnight!).

But the nets eye whatever seems to be platform adventure fantasy, whereas my previous game of choice was a dos version of "the hitchikers guide to the galaxy" - it made me laugh with the asshole answers it would give you if you told it to do something wrongly!

I do have a window$ version of "jelly fish" backgammon which I have perfected to intermediate level (It boasts that if you can play to international standards, at level 5 (of 7), you will still only beat the computer 55% of the time. I prefer it to say something like chess, which I find a little "elitist" because the strategy is all so cerebal. whereas backgammon is the strategy dependant on the throw of a dice.

With games in mind:

UckersThe old family game of ludo, modified by "Jolly Jack" to include strategy and tactics, and played at all levels throughout the Royal Navy, from "sweepers" to "carriers". The piling up of counters creates *blobs which, depending on theri size, require varying challenges to overcome. A *mixy blob loses challenge rights.
"Wafu" rules are not played in *General service, but include such subtleties as "suck backs" and "siff on his donk".
I should point out that to give an accurate portrayal of Uckers is difficult because I would have to also define words/phrases like "double six", "bits out", "out bits and hack", "up tables" and "eight piece dicking". I personally have seem blokes almost at "punching stations" over this boardgame! and seeing is believing. John
