Game problems

Why is it that games such as Tux Racer and Chromium (I think) run so slow under Linux. I used to think it was because I had a slow PC, but since I've just upgraded to a P4 2.6 Ghz with 1GB DDR400 RAM I can no longer see this as an excuse.

I have a GForce4 128MB graphics card which seems to be configured correctly as I use the KDE GUI no problems. I don't seem to have any problems running games under Windows.

Any ideas?? I have noticed that the problem seems to only be with 3D type games. Is there some other drivers I need to load or something?? Please help if you have any ideas.

I must admit this is one of the things that annoy me about using Linux. Things are never as easy as Windows........but I shall push on.

you need to go to nvidia and d/l the driver for linux. after you install the driver you will need to edit your X11/XF86Config file.......after you install the driver!!! in the file where it says vidio driver it will say nv you need to change it to nvidia and then restart x.

oddone thank's for that but excuse my ignorance I thought that nv was the nvidia driver??

its a generic driver but it has no 3d acceleration. I have a g3 ti200 128 meg after you install the driver you will need to change it so that it can address the new driver.
