Question Gaim .....yahoo.....proxy.....port......


I installed gaim in my redhat 9
tried to login with yahoo messenger id
but this error message

Access denied: proxy sever forbids port 5050 tunneling

please I am desparate to use messenger in linux
am shifting completely to linux
i go to windows only for messenger .......
plzzzzzzzzzz help me .........

Hello,

Do you got the new version of gaim? Give us your Vesrion number. I know i got gaim installed on mine and it works fine.

Also, are you using a proxy? What sort of settings does it have? Are you using a firewall too?

We need more information.

the older vesion of gaim does not work
get the new one
also check out the the yahoo messenger for linux rom yahoo's site

I have installed gaim 1.03
yeah! Iam connected through proxy
sorry I forgot to mention about firewall
our firewall won't allow us to do voice chat in windows yahoo messenger
it allows voice chat in messenger
is that anything related to it

our proxy is something like this proxy.xx.xxxx.xxxxx.xx port 3128
can't I use gaim .......

hi there

u need to fill in the info required
in the network tab in the preferences section in the TOOLS menu

fill up the port no and other info!!( try with http proxy)

but i filled it already
am able to use all other softwares like aMSN firefox etc .,
with the same proxy and port
problem comes with gaim
can you help me what to fill in port range ......I don't know what to give in it

well i did not require the port range for my settings
try using yahoo for unix from here

thanks a lot
I installed yahoo messenger
its working
but.......if you don't feel I crib a lot
yahoo alert sounds are of very less volume
when i run any other music or so I won't be able to hear them
nor even when Iam at a distance
is there any option of increasing volume of souds and alerts of yahoo only
do this final favour
it would be a great help to me
I switched completely from windows to linux ,thanks to all those answered me
just answer this final request no plzzzzzz.........

hi there

frankly i do not use yahoo messenger , i use gaim
so i cannot tell about that sound, also i hate that alerts so i keep them mute
