dear friends
i tried to install gaim on my slackware 10.1 distro using following steps
#tar xjf gaim-1.1.2.tar.bz2
after that i enter the extracted directory
then i executed following commands
# ./configure
this gave no error and asked to type make to install
# make
the package compiled
but when i tried to start gaim by
#gaim
it didnt start giving command not found

You use "make" to compile the source; "make install" does the actual installation. Edit: also, you didn't need to install it from source (or did you want to? If so, that's cool ), as Slackware packages for Gaim exist (and those can be installed with pkgtool).

You need to do "make" after running "./configure" and before "make install". If you want the latest version of Gaim in a Slackware package, you can get it here (it's version 1.5.0).

If you want a newer version of the program, you should try making a search at the Slackware package browser or at LinuxPackages.
