This is really getting frustrating. I'm at work now at this point so I wont be able to take another look until I get home tonite.

Another suggestion I was given was to
cp /downloads/gaim-70 /usr/local/bin (or whichever the install dir was)

Does that sound familiar or is that just grasping for ideas at this point?

If the make was successful and it just didn't get copied then you could probably do:
cp /downloads/gaim-0.70/src/gaim /usr/local/bin/gaim

You could test this by just running /downloads/gaim-0.70/src/gaim and it works fine like that just copy it over.

I looked in the /src folder & I didn't see a file called 'gaim'... does that mean install/make wasn't succesfull in building it?

sounds like either the ./configure had a problem or the make

Hmmm. That really screws me doesn't it? Especially since I removed the previous version 'just in case'. Now I'm w/o chat & I have a .tar that won't compile.

I guess we all have to learn somehow...
