Future Linux feature request !!

I really want to have future release of linux has features like the following ....

Auto update !!! IN windows xp,you can forget about update your system....it automaticly download and install for you behind background ....but in linux !!you have dependency problems ,manual install ,time consumming.source and binery .

Better GUI, The graphic interface and apps are still poor in linux compare to Windows and Macosx..
Some text formating compatiably,ugly api......

Faster boot up processing...
i think linux bootup process takes much time than windows or mac ??

Windows compatible feature (software available)
many computer user nowdays still have to use windows software a lot, desktop and workstation....for productive environment......
Software is the most important factor consider for OS success ........More software native to linux the more powerful competeance is...........like video game market.....who win the war ?like ps2 compare to dreamcast !!ps2 has more software, games title than sega dreamcast.therefor,ps2 win and sega close business.
open office is still not perfact....and text incompatiable to win office sometimes.

User friendly....
99% of computer user deserve for this .....in a matter of fact !

Better anti-hacks feature
my pc sometimes has virus, spyware, cracker attack problems,i cant relax .

Hardware compatiblity ....
if you purchase a pc in may 2005 version, you cant make it work under fedora 2 or linux that is release in jan 2005......chipset,ethernet......drivers ?kernel pinic always..

marketing promotion
more people around the world know linux subject the more popular the unix/linux is it.!!!
more developer, company ,users get involve !!!faster software growth.....

If all the above requests are filled any time sooner.....i am sure of that bill gate will lost his jobs for whatever......!!

thanks.....

Most distro's have this capability. Most good admins or users familiar will have it auto-update on a regular basis. I on the other hand don't do this on regular systems or systems I administer as I like to review packages to be downloaded or updated. Look into using Yum or Apt.. and Redhat still uses up2date.. etc.

I've made mine pretty when I use them after customizing it how I want it. Installing better fonts always helps as well..

My desktop machines have boot times in under 30 seconds.. hmmm..

I find more applications in Linux than in Windows and most are free. I don't play video games, I can see the lack there but this all depends on the software vendor. But there are always better choices in Linux to me. I use to be a heavy Dreamweaver and Photoshop user but now use vi for editing web pages and The Gimp for graphics editing/design. It took a while to wing off photoshop but now I actually prefer The Gimp over Photoshop without the hefty price tag. And OpenOffice and Abi do excellent jobs in opening Microsoft documents, etc. It's hard for them to get it 100% perfect since Microsoft doesn't open their source code, you have to give them credit for doing such a good job on what they have to work with.

What? Linux isn't user-friendly? I find myself confused in Windows nowadays compared to a CLI or using Linux applications and configurations.. ;)

I feel more relaxed with Linux than Windows. Learn to administer your machine and perhaps you can relax a little more. I don't use any native anti-virus software and secure my systems by configuring them to be more secure. I think Linux has better tools in place than any base install Windows system, without any 3rd party applications which most use and have to pay for.

Blame the vendors but I like the fact that once it is supported, you rarely ever need to have a stack of Drivers Disks sitting near your PC after a fresh install.. most of it will be natively supported once it is supported. I learned when buying new hardware, know your hardware and if you want it to be supported in Linux, investigate and research before buying it.

So IBM's billion dollars towards Linux marketing isn't enough?

Who cares about Bill Gates and his company? Linux wasn't created to put him or anyone out of business.. you should rethink why you want to use Linux and not worry so much about what Microsoft is up to. Use what you prefer and are most familiar with.

Use gentoo, put "emerge --sync ; emerge -vUuD world" in your crontab file. You can have it run at night, or once a week, and you will always be up to date.

There is nothing wrong with X windows on a technical level, and I think the kde apps are prettier and more feature full than windows, but you are right. You move between a lot of different apps, and the file browser is a little different between them, and some are very basic. This will change slowly over time. It is not a priority for me though.

If you want to use windows apps in linux, try Wine, Cedega, or Lindows or something. Hell, if you have a decent box, you can use VMware and run a real windows OS to make sure your important software will run. All these things help the transistion to linux be a little smoother.

Put a knoppix cd in your drive and boot up. If you think that is hard to use, or say that KDE or firefox are somehow not "user friendly", I think I smell a liar. (notice the "if" and the "think" I don't want to outright call anyone names here)

Linux doesn't need these as much. When set up properly, you can run for a year or more without any virus or spyware, etc. If you want to relax a bit, come to the linux side, you'll like it.

Linux supports more hardware than XP out of the box. That being said, if it doesn't work out the of the box, the search for linux drivers can be a pain. If you want to use linux, buy hardware that linux supports. All those issuse can be made to dissapear if you get supported hardware, and it doesn't have much to do with when you buy, it's a matter of what you buy. A top of the line AMD gaming comp will be supported in linux fine (nforce4, PCI-E, 64-bit, SATA, GBE, Geforce6800, etc, etc). Though, you are right on a level, I wish more people would release open source drivers. If you really can't find a driver, try ndiswrapper / some other driver wrapper. They use windows drivers as if they were written for linux.

Can't argue with that.
