Question FTP write Permissions

I am running free bsd, with proftpd for ftp. I can ftp to the box from within the network without problems. I can write and delete files. But when I try to ftp from outside the network, i can log in under the same logon name, but cannot write or delete files, only read.
Any help?

so outside as in if you were at a friends house...

while inside you would be in the other room attached to the network.

Do you have a router.

That might be the problem. if you are accessing it over the internet/WAN then the router might be your roadblock.

I can't think of a reason, but you may consider:

- does your isp have ftp restrictions? When I access my ftp server through aol, I can only read files

- is port 21 open on your firewall?

- wjat does your log show? often /var/log/xferlog

Perhaps you could post your ftp conf file, with actual names removed

port 21 is open and natted to the linux. FTP is allowed, i have a server setup at my home and at work(Bullet Proof on XP boxs) all this works fine. I'm not logging in via Root. I'm logging in via my created user name.
It is that same situation chriscoelphoto.

We dont have an internal router.
