ftp local user login

hi
i am not able to access ftp server as a local user
the server asks for user name and password
i get the error 501 OOPS: cannot change directory :/home/user
i have local_enable=YES , user_list option enabled and the particular user is not in the user_list file
i have also added check_shell=no line to th vsftpd.conf file

Does the home directory actually exist for the user?

hi,
thanks for replying
the user does have a home directory
any user i create will have a /home/user dirctory created
i am using fedora core 6 version
i even changed the directory permissions for that user to ftp user but still i have the same problem
i can only login to the ftp server as anonymous
even root is not able to access the server
i get the error
500 OOPS: cannot change directory :/root

i can login as root only using the following command
# sftp <ip address of ftp server>
