FTP Installation problems

I posted a message a while back in March... Still no Redhat on my Toshiba Laptop-I gave up on it for quite some time..Now I am looking into installing via FTP rather than mess with the pcmcia cdrom. I have a bootnet.img floppy, so I can get in to the install portion-Let me share with you what is happening thus far.... I got to the "Installation Method" after selecting "FTP", the next screen is "Configure TCP/IP"-It asks for my machines IP address, netmask default gateway(IP) & primary nameserver...Ok I get that in, and a little box says "determining host name and domain"-then it brings me to the FTP setup-so far so good..I tried several ftp site names to enter in the first box (along with the dir path in the other box)-I get the "unknown host" box after a few seconds. It will then say "so and so.net.com" is not a valid hostname-I have tried entering the ftp site name with & without the "ftp://" I would just enter the site name itself..still getting "invalid hostname"
I am determined to do this-by all means necessary!!!!

Is DNS functioning? Have you tried connecting to a site by IP rather than FQDN?

I am having trouble even connecting to internet on the windows partition also..May be corrupt winsock32 in the MBR-I am looking into the DNS issue-I have not yet tried entering the IP rather than the ftp site name itself. But something is preventing my connection to go through I think that I will just wipe out the HD, and start from scratch-sans windows

Well-I did it!!! Almost 7 months later since my last posting in March, I finally have a almost fully functioning dual-boot system..I was able to configure my TCP/IP per my internet provider-FTP installation was a success...The only problem I am having right now, is my PCMCIA cd-rom is not producing sound. The cd-rom itself is working fine-it mounted itself and everything but no sound output..Heres the kicker though-There is sound on the other applications, just not the CD-rom...
Also the PCMCIA LAN card is fully functional-I am able to connect to internet applications and such with that..
My question is this: Is there some way to configure it so I am able to get sound from the cdrom along with the other applications? I looked in the sound properties and tried to find out why its not working-everything appears to be normal. Like I said the cd's will play but just no sound..
Here are my machine specs:
Toshiba Portege 3110CT (laptop)
P2 @333mhz (overclocked-stock is 300mhz)
128MB RAM
external PCMCIA CD-rom
external Floppy & network attachment
Dual-boot with WinME (CD-rom does produce sound in windows enviroment)
