ftp ft.com works but not with WS_FTP PRO
Hi.
I just installed the proftpd server on my linux machine. I can type ftp ft.com with telnet and login but when I try connecting using my WS_FTP PRO program it just says connection reset. I was trying to figure this out myself. I've been working on it for a few days. I'm hoping you can shed some light on this for me. ThankYou. Dave. |
Have you tried playing with the active/passive settings in WS_FTP? This is sometimes an issue with firewalled sites.

Hi. Yhanks for your response. I tried changing the active/passive setting no change.
Here is my proftpd.conf file # This is a basic ProFTPD configuration file (rename it to # 'proftpd.conf' for actual use. It establishes a single server # and a single anonymous login. It assumes that you have a user/group # "nobody" and "ftp" for normal operation and anon. ServerName "www.myserver.com" ServerType standalone DefaultServer on # Port 21 is the standard FTP port. Port 21 # Umask 022 is a good standard umask to prevent new dirs and files # from being group and world writable. Umask 022 # To prevent DoS attacks, set the maximum number of child processes # to 30. If you need to allow more than 30 concurrent connections # at once, simply increase this value. Note that this ONLY works # in standalone mode, in inetd mode you should use an inetd server # that allows you to limit maximum number of processes per service # (such as xinetd) MaxInstances 30 # Set the user and group that the server normally runs at. User root Group root # Normally, we want files to be overwriteable. <Directory /usr/local/private> AllowOverwrite on </Directory> # A basic anonymous configuration, no upload directories. <Anonymous ~ftp> User ftp # We want clients to be able to login with "anonymous" as well as "ftp" UserAlias anonymous ftp # Limit the maximum number of anonymous logins MaxClients 25 # We want 'welcome.msg' displayed at login, and '.message' displayed # in each newly chdired directory. DisplayLogin welcome.msg DisplayFirstChdir .message # Limit WRITE everywhere in the anonymous chroot <Limit WRITE> DenyAll </Limit> </Anonymous> <Global> RequireValidShell off </Global> GroupPassword daveftp 10BQTGz9gRBwo GroupPassword hammer 10BQTGz9gRBwo RequireValidShell off UseFtpUsers off <Directory /home/hammer> </Directory> SyslogLevel debug ExtendedLog \usr\ftplog AccessDenyMsg you didn't do good. AccessGrantMsg you did good logging in Any idea why I can login on using telnet(ftp www.myserver.com) but I can't use my WS_FTP program? Thanks. Dave |
Any ideas?
I just installed proftpd. It is strange. I can login to my server with secure crt. type ftp myserver.com My username and password and it works. When I try to use my WS_FTP program it just don't work. Anyone have this happen before or have any ideas what I might can do to check it. Thanks. dave. |
