ftp-based file manager?
Hello again - another :newbie: question I'm afraid...
Is there an equivelent for Ubuntu Dapper to the windows utility WebDrive? I got used to using that to upload files to my websites. It'd be great if I could find a Linux equivelent! Does anybody know of one? Thanks |
how are we supposed to suggest a replacement for an application we do not necessarily know anything about?!?
if you want a file manager over ftp, then i'd suggest taking a look at the fuse project, which would allow a local mount vai ssh. then you can just use whatever generic file manager you want. |

I'll go take a look for it. Thanks again (and apologies for the assumptions.) |
hehe no problem. fuse can seem a little complicated from what it is, basically it's a sort of user land wrapper which converts virtually any remote connection protocol (and other things besides) into a mountable filesystem... i would asume that it'd be ftpfs runnign with fuse. (take protocol name, and add "fs" to end end:))

I haven't found a source for ftpsh yet - but I'm still hunting :) Thanks again for the pointer / advice ! <edit> Just for info - I installed the latest version of fuse (not the version in the Ubuntu repository) and now it works fine - it's a great system and with all that built in security too, what more could I want? </edit> Cheers Clive |
