Welcome to LQ !!

For the RH boxes, make sure you have an FTP server installed, most problably you'll have wu-ftpd pre-installed, but just check.

Also, go to /etc/xinetd.d/ and edit any ftp related file, e.g. wu-ftpd, and make sure it is not disabled.

If you have any firewalls installed, put a rule that allows FTP.

For Windows 2000, go to Add/Remove and expand IIS, you should see an FTP server there which you need to install.

I don't think win98 comes with an FTP server, so you can go to somewhere like download.com and get yourself a nice one.

thanks for the reply...now i able to ftp ....can you tell me one more thing pls....what is the difference between hub and switch...
and how can I add a HP deskjet 640c printer on my redhat linux 7.2 version...pls..help...

A hub and a switch are both used to connect devices to a network.

A switch gives better performance in higher throughput networks because it is more intelligent than a hub, as it forwards traffic only to the intended recepient rather than flooding all traffic out of all ports like the hub. So, hub connected networks will experince collisions.

Can't help you with the printer though, sorry!
