FTP and SFTP

Hi everyone,

Is it possible to have an FTP server as well as SFTP server running on one box? Right now im accessing my box via a secure shell and a sftp client and have a squirrelmail plugin that needs to connect to a FTP server. Would it cause problems if i try to install WU-FTP? does this make sense?

Hi,

Sftp (the one coming with ssh) runs on the same port as ssh (port 22 by default). 'Normal' ftp runs on port 20/21 (and depending on how things are set up some unprivileged [>1024] ports).

Secure ftp (a 'normal' ftp server using ssl) is also sometimes called sftp, if that is the case you need to check your ftp server options or run 2 ftp servers next to each other (giving them unique ports to listen to).

My assumption is that you are talking about the first example I gave. In that case: You can run them side by side with no trouble.
