fsck.ext3 PROBLEM

alright....i need some help...

my PC is running Fedora core 1 with a 2.4 kernel
just recently i came home...turned it on....was watching it boot (as you do)
when all of a sudden...much to my dissmay...it came back with an error and would go no further...i havn't been able to boot my pc for 2 days now....

the error says :
"WARNING...fsck.ext3 for device iLABEL=/ exited with signal 11"

does anyone know how i can fix this???
i really dont want to lose my install and have to format.....its taken me about 4 months to get this system doing everything i want it to...

boot with the rescue or 1st cdrom from your distro, and you can try to mount the filesystem from there, or check the filesystem. you should be able to mount the filesystem read-only even if the filesystem check doesn't work. if you can't then the stuff is probably gone.

different people would do different things now, but i would rename the fsck.ext3 to something else, so the filesystem cannot be checked on boot, and see if the system will boot like that.
i might would get another hard drive, copy everything to it, make a new filesystem on the original hard drive, copy everything back, reinstall the boot loader to be done. unless something is wrong with fsck.ext3 then that should do it. if not than i would reinstall the package that has the fsck utils in it. i can't remember the name right now.
