From which Red Hat Version, boot loader Iilo was replaced by GRUB
Hi People,
I need to know from which Red Hat Version, boot loader Lilo was replaced by GRUB and how do I change back from GRUB to Lilo. |
Welcome to LQ!!
I assume that you installed Red Hat and the installer put in GRUB. I don't know which version you used!! (but I'm not sure it matters) Why would you want to install LILO??? OK--if you insist: http://www.google.com/search?q=insta...L_enUS177US235 |
I think from Red Hat version 7.x, not sure.

I have a RH 6.2 box that uses lilo (and I'm quite sure it was the only option during the install)
I did install 7.x long ago and can't remember if there was an option or that lilo was the only option I have a RH 8 box and I know it boots lilo; I'm also quite sure (99%) that there was a choice during the install which one you want to use. I suggest that you check your system to see if lilo is available (it might have been installed but not used). If so, it's a matter of configuring and running the lilo command. |

thank you all for your replies.
I think, till Red Hat Linux 9.0, there was choise to install either Lilo or Grub but in all versions after 9.0, its GRUB (thats my finding and I might be completely wrong ). I simply wish to replace GRUB with LILO. I tried command /sbin/lilo but it says no such command. I am using RHEL 4. Any ideas ..? Although, when I install GRUB, it created file /etc/lilo.config.anaconda. |

I remember my reluctance to embrace the delights of grub. "My distro made me" (use grub).
Now I like it :) lilo? No way! Off-topic @pixellany: A PDP-8? I'd love one of those, but I'd prefer a PDP-11. Much nicer architecture. Anyone got one in their basement? (I still have some PDP-8/11 manuals, somewhere). |
