Now i'm actually locked out completely from the GUI...
So....My keyboard layout was wrong....So when I setup my user account, I used the number 1 in the password....but it actually was a funky looking A character. but if I used the numpad on the right of the keyboard, the number 1 worked. So I decided to change me password and use the numpad so I would know the number 1 is in the password....I wanted to do this before I changed the keyboard layout...because my password wouldn't be good if the characters changed....
Now I try to login to the desktop with my new password....it doesn't say its incorrect....but it doesn't login either....it just empties the password text box for me to type again....but if I type the wrong password, it will actually say its incorrect.
I can switch over to terminal and login fine....Just not working with the GUI

So do you have a GUI now?
What desktop environment are you using?

My next step is file sharing... I'm thinking SAMBA? I really only need to share between Linux environments.... but the occasional windows laptop will be on the network so I should made it work with both environments.

Congrads on your fresh install.
Glad to hear you have a GUI and it's working for you.
Make sure you update your fresh installation.
For Samba you would need to start a new thread.
