Fresh Lubuntu install returning errors

Hello all.

I download Lubuntu 14.04(??)(with the idea of updating to current version on first boot). I did this because my USB stick wouldn't boot so I had to burn it to a CD. I had to download a version under 700MB.

Every time I try to install or update anything, I get an error.

Package Operation Failed
The installation or removal of a software package failed.

I've tried to upgrade to current Lubuntu, install Chrome browser, and I also tried to "Update Software." I got this error each time.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

First off I hate upgrades.

How were you trying to dist upgrade exactly? Did you use command lines or web page or some program?

This would be current and fit on cd. http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/r...rnate-i386.iso

Seems there should be a netinstall but I don't see it.

When I booted the system for the first time it said there was an update available... so I clicked install.

Also, the link you provided is 900+MB which will not fit on a CD

Lubuntu, unlike some of the other major Ubuntu distributions has three years support so that ended in April, 2017.

Your best bet is to download the current version of Lubuntu 17.04 and perform a fresh installation.

I'm going to try 17.04 netinstall because the fill image wont burn correctly for me....it errored during install so now i'm reinstalling the old version. Hopefully the mini.iso will burn correctly.

If it doesn't burn correctly you could try to use Unetbootin:- That is if you have a flash drive handy.

https://unetbootin.github.io/

If that doesn't work use a Windows machine and Rufus.

Most likely booting to usb isn't set in the BIOS to boot to a usb device. It's probably set to boot to the CDROM.

To change that you would go into your BIOS and change the boot order and reboot.

I tried that....It would just "hang" and basically freeze on the boot process.

The netinstall should go fine.

Let us know when your fresh install is up and running.
