Fresh install of RHEL does not have yum and apt-get

Hi all,

I just freshly install a command line RHEL.
I realized it hasnt install apt-get (but i think apt-get is only for debian).
And so i tried yum install but that also give me the same error says command cannot be found.

I tried tried to find the yum rpm within the rhel cd but they are not in disc 1-3 too.

From google, i learnt that to install package i need to use yum. but in my case yum is not installed, (command not found) and yum rpm does not exist in rhel cds, so what are the options for me to get package installed on this rhel?

I don't have gui so i couldnt go onto a rpm site to download and install.

Is that another command that can get yum rpm from internet and install it?

Thanks for looking into my query. I realized this is a basic question, most of the time yum and apt-get are available by default.

You need to run Yum as root.

the very old and antique RHEL4 did not have yum installed ( it was not invented yet -rhel4 is that OLD)
it used "up2date"

RHEL5 and RHEL6
will AUTO install the package manager
IT IS A REQUIREMENT so it WILL get installed on the current RHEL6.3

also RHEL is not a free operating system
so when you bought the license you also get the support that comes with that license
http://www.redhat.com/about/subscription/
http://www.redhat.com/support/customer-portal.html

if it was not installed from the Current RHEL6.3 dvd then reinstall
