Freezing in many different linux distros.
 

I have just got a copy of the Fedora 10 Live install disk, and when I go to install to hard disk, it freezes not so far along the way. My specifications are:

Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz
2gb of ddr2 memory
Sapphire Radeon HD3650 PCI-E 2.0

If you would like the Hard drive information and perhaps other things I can give them to you.

I have also tried ubuntu, with similar problems (freezing randomly with no apparent reason).

I have actually have been on doing various things on F10 for a while, it seems when I install it the problem occurs.

Well, I've tried many different distributions of Linux with the same problem sooner or later, so I assume it's a hardware problem.. Is there a way I can disable PCI devices? Or maybe even a way of troubleshooting various hardware?

My first question would be is where did you get your distributions and how? If you downloaded then be sure to check the md5sum for the downloaded iso then burn the 'image'.

I would check the md5sum. If you downloaded the cd/dvd iso then be sure to check the md5sum for the original iso. From the cli;

If the iso md5 is ok then you should try 'CdromMd5sumsAfterBurning''.

This way you will know if the burn was OK!

This will check the download iso with the known md5sum that you also get with the iso.


If you are using M$Windows then use 'md5sum.exe' to check the md5sum for the iso.

Well, I tested the Debian cd image and it was fine.



It seems it's ok if I don't do anything but have the terminal open compiling, but say if I ventured off that track and perhaps opened Robots it would all cock up.
