freezing and crashing of firefox and entire computer

so my computer in my opinion hates me :) out of nowhere it will just freeze and i'll have to turn it off and start it again. then most often my firefox keeps crashing, and when my firefox wasn't working at all i went to konquror and then that one would just crash. sometimes my messengers will do the same thing?
what's going on? is my little baby infected with something i don't know about?
should i uninstall everything and reinstall everything on my computer?
what do i do?!?!?!? someone help me if you can .
thanks.
i'm using fedora core 3

It is really hard to help, when we don't know what distro you are using.

It could be either an overheating problem, or a bad CPU, or bad RAM (among many other possibilities as well). Overall though, you need to provide more background information: What are your hardware specs? Is there any consistency to these failures? Are there any actions (or series of actions) that seem to cause the failure? Does the failure always seem to happen after you've been using the computer for "X" amount of time? Have you recently made any changes to the machine? Have you recently added or removed any components from the machine? etc, etc, etc.

Obvious things to check would be that all the fans are all working, that all your cards, cables, and connectors are securely seated, and that you're not obstructing the airflow around your machine. You might also consider running memtest -- J.W.
