Freespire installation issues

I am trying to install Freespire 1.2.49 on my compaq presario desktop that previously ran Windows XP. When I frist tried to install freespire it looked pretty simple, I put the cd in the computer and re-started it. The freespire main menu came up asking if I wanted to install, live boot, or advanced options. I choose to install freepsire, the screen then went blank for a second and then it said it was starting up. After the computer said it was starting up it then went blank again and this message was displayed at the bottom of the screen:
Int 14: CR2 cf7f0000 err oooooooo EIP C020e7b4 CS00000060 flags 00010007 Stack C00f7d50 C03f261b C0373848 00000002 C007d59 000f7d50 00000000 00000000
the computer does not do anything after this so I have to hold the power button down to re-start the computer.

My second attempt was more successful, I booted with the cd and went to advanced options and selected to install with option acpi=off. This seemed to work because it went through the install fine the computer ejected the cd and re-started. The screen then displayed grub loading stage 1.5 please wait, then it displayed starting up and the screen went blank again and the same message was displayed at the bottom of the screen and the computer freezes. I am new to linux and thought it would be a good replacement for windows xp, any help getting freespire running on my computer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I am somewhat prejudiced about freespire... however, it looks like you need more boot options in GRUB. Try running the live boot option and see if everything works. (Note, you may need the acpi=off option there too.)

Did you update your BIOS yet? The error you got is associated with out of date BIOS. Yau can also go into yaur CMOS setup and... switch off any special power saving features.

I think there's a bug in its installer causing it to hang at detecting your monitor. You think they would put a kernel command to let it skip this step.
