Red face .forward file maintenance

Help. I have users and they have email and a ".forward" file in their "/home/user" directory.

Where do I find information on the requirements, restrictions and How To's for the ".forward" file?

I am unable to do a search on any search engine, including the famous Google Linux, because they return everything which contains the word "forward" in it.

Even the LinuxQuestions.org website doesn't recognize the"." and returns all findings that have the word "forward" in them.

I need to find out how to modify this file to forward copies of email to remote email addresses and the only instructions I received were very short and did not work. In fact, it appears that after I followed those instructions all of the emails have now disappeared for that user.

Add more terms to your search such as "email forward file" and your server.

I found the URL which provided the answer.

http://www.exim.org/index.html

However, there is a bug and the deliver command can only handle one forwarding address per line so instead of "deliver yahoo yahoo1@yahoo.com" you have to enter it as:

"deliver yahoo"
"deliver yahoo1@yahoo.com"
