Question Formatting to remove Grub Error 17

I recently installed LBA Linux on a spare system. However, after installing I decided it was not to my taste as it did not correctly support my soundcard and I couldn't be bothered spending time to sort it out (I'm v.lazy!!!). Anyhow, I formatted the drive using FDISK as I have done with previous versions of Linux I have tried, but I now get an error stating "Loading Grub...Error 17". I have checked the drive within Windows and reformatted it again, but still this appears. The only conclusion I can draw is that there is a small amount of space on the drive still containing boot commands that now lead to nowhere as the files have been removed.

Can anyone help me to alleviate this error??

The "small amount of space" you refer to is probably the MBR (master boot record) of the hard drive.

Boot into windows and run fixmbr to remove grub from the MBR. I assume you do not have any Linux distro installed. If you run fixmbr with a Linux distro installed and depending on grub to boot, fixmbr will break grub. If you do not have Linux installed, fixmbr will remove the last piece of the Linux install, and only windows will remain.

Cheers. The drive itself is completely separate and Windows is not installed on it. Will this still work if I connect it upto my main system that runs windows and run fixmbr? I'm wanting to test out Longhorn on it.
