Formating a RAID Drive, Taking so much time and hangup the system

Hi

I have RH 9 and installed on Intel S845WE-1 with promise 20267 controller.

I have suucessfully install the Promise H/W Raid but cannot format the drives. I used follwoing steps.

$ fdisk /dev/sda

I made 240 GB(120 GB x2) extended then logical partician on sda5

# mke2fs -b 4096 -R stride=16 /dev/sda5

it shows 1789 blck groups and making the inodes table.

I found if i leave the system in the same state it would take atleast 17 hours or more to finish it. but the system hangup(after 178,192, 216 ...) in mean time I perform same exercise 5 times. I am tired now.

Plz help me!

Thanks pengiun4

I would like to know about why does it take time. Is there any way to optimize it.

I have formatted simple IDE it takes only 3-5 minutes but why it so long for RAID(0).
