format usb

I am trying to format my usb so i get full permission from my other pc to access it but i get an error.
On my other pc it works fine with the same command. I am running Ubantu on both pc's

root@ubuntu:/home/user# mount -t ext2 -o rw,suid,exec,async /dev/sda1 /media/usbdisk
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1,
missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so

Thanks for anyhelp

be sure about file system

first of all make sure that the filesystem on your usb is ext2.
you can use dmesg | tail for useful information as suggested in command itself.

Please post the output of "fdisk -l /dev/sda"

What sort of drive is it - HDD in USB caddy or memory stick?
