Unhappy Forgot login pwd in RH7.2

If i forget my login password is there any way to login(if i know root pwd).

Can i change the entries in /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow ( that x and $...)
so that i can successfully log in.

I have heard that if i forget the root pwd, then typing linuxsingle will help to login as root. But its not working in my RH7.2

What are the ways????

from what i gather from that information, i take it you know your root password ...
so why not log in as root and change the users password, or worse comes to worse
re-create the user account ?

If you know roots password all you need to do is:

passwd <username>
and set it to something new ...

And it's not linuxsingle, it's linux single :} ...
single being a parameter passed to the kernel
on the lilo/grub prompt.
