Forgoing the console login (grub)
 

Need to be able to replace the grub loader, in the event it has been deleted. Any ideas on how to repair or replace it. Thanks in advance for any who try.

Use the rescue mode of your Linux distro CD/DVD.

Basically you chroot to your install and then reinstall grub
with

grub-install /dev/sda

There is a really good utility disk called Super Grub Disk http://www.supergrubdisk.org/

Download and burn a copy for future use, I always manage to fork up my grub setup and my SGD has saved me loads of grief in the past.
