ForeSight .deb ?
Hi yes I am a noob at linux. I was using uBuntu for a while but I dont like it that much, I really do love ForeSight tho !
I am experiencing a problem tho ! In uBuntu I usually download programs like "Skype" and "Envy" in .deb, but when I open a .deb file it sends me to the archive manager. Can anyone explain me whats going on here and how will I install a .deb package ? |
As nearly as I can tell looking at the Foresight home page, they have their own repositories, and don't support .deb packages. Different distributions work differently.

Thanks for your replie. You don't know if their is a way to install a .deb file ?

Thrixx - in Foresight, you currently cannot install a deb file. We use Conary for all of our package management, and not dpkg like Debian or Ubuntu.
However, our repository has a lot of software, including Skype. To see if a package is available for installation in Foresight, you have 3 options. If you're using Foresight 1.4.1 or newer, you can search using PackageKit (System -> Administration -> Add/Remove Software) Browse Foresight's repository online: http://www.rpath.org/rbuilder/repos/foresight/browse Or use the command line and type: conary rq packagename If you have more questions, please feel free to drop by in our IRC channel on Freenode, channel #foresight or just click on "Get Live Help" in the Applications menu and it will take you straight there. If there is a package you are looking for that is not in our repository, please stop by IRC or fill out a package request in our bug tracker at http://issues.foresightlinux.org/secure/Dashboard.jspa Thanks!
