for installation gmt

we are facing the following error

plz suggest

You must first run configure in the main GMT directory
make[1]: *** [gmt_version.h] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/GMT4.5/GMT4.5.6/src'
make: *** [gmt] Error 2

while we run configure in main GMT dir. then again showing same error

Sorry, my crystal ball is a bit hazy and there's not much information to go on here. It definitely looks like your running the configure script in the wrong place. When you unpack the tarball containing a program, you usually should cd into the top directory of the extracted tarball and run configure from there. Failing that, look for a README or INSTALL file distributed with the source. This should contain instructions for how you are supposed to build the program.
