Fonts - Please Help
 

When I browse the Internet through linux stupid fonts come up. I'd realy like to have thesame fonts as I've got on Windows. Can somebody help me with this?

If you have TTF or TrueType fonts, you can easily copy these over for XFree86 to recognize and use. Have you at least attempted to configure your fonts in your browser though? You can make it only use the fonts you specify for every page, etc.

I got fonts from Windows... but how do I install them and how do I make my web browser use them??

I burned a CD with a bunch of ttf (Windows) fonts on it. Then I used the font installer (from config stuff) to add em. You may have to be "root" to do so. Some flavors in Linux will pop-up a box for you to type in the root password. Others will force you to logged in as root. You choose "Add" button. You will have to read the cdrom. When the filer comes up you have to type/select "/mnt/cdrom/" or /mnt/auto/cdrom/" to bring up the fonts on the CD. Sorry about being a little vague, but I did this on several flavors of Linux and there are slight differences of sameness. You can bring in 1 font at a time or a range (with Shift key and click) of fonts. Once you click "Ok" the fonts will be brought in. You preview em by clicking on same. You might have to find the fonts in the list of fonts already installed. If you are satisfied click on install. If you don't want one you brought in, click on it to remove the check mark. If you want to add fonts separated on the CDRom list, use the Ctrl and click.

In a related font matter, I was wondering how to increase the size of some of the dialog fonts and the fonts in the menus, etc in some programs. I know how to do the Look and Feel Desktop fonts and change same in the "Settings" on certain programs.

Any, as long as I have proper fonts! (Opera or Netscape would be best)

WHere do I find the font installer program?

For a browser to be able to use decent fonts it has to be compiled with xft support. I'm a Mozilla Firefox man so I can't comment on Opera or Netscape, I just know that with Mozilla it has to be an xft build to get decent fonts.
There is no font installer program. You just untar a bundle of fonts and then configure fontconfig so it searches the directory where you put them. By default it will search a hidden folder .fonts in your home folder. If it doesn't exist, create it, put the fonts in there then log out and back in again to make fontconfig update it's list of fonts. http://www.xfree86.org/4.3.0/fonts2.html

I think Mandrake has it located off of your panel(aka "Start") under "System"

Configuration/Other/FontInstaller. Just follow the clicks. Once there you have to

find the "Add" button. In Mandrake I think its an obscure icon at the top-right. Click on ""Add" (icon or button). This will bring up file manager. If you have a cdrom on your desktop and its showing in file manager - click on it (cd is in cdrom or put it in and wait til the read light goes out on cdrom). This should bring up your font list, depending on how you have em on the rom. If you have other things on the rom, you will have to find the font directory. If you don't have a cdrom icon on your desktop... You will have to type:

/mnt/auto/cdrom/ (location )

This SHOULD give the font list or cd list of files/directory. Linux still has certain barbaric features and this may bring out the pirate in you. Also getting the cdrom drive to eject the rom can be fun. Once you get your font selection in you have to click on "Apply" or in Mandrake's case they are already applied once you bring em in. It's best to use Ctrl + Click to select multiple fonts at a time. Using Shift+Click for a range sometimes gives you the wrong range.
