fonts in suse 8.1

I want a good font configuration for kde but the standard fonts in the distro are bad. Can anyone tell me how to do this (where i can get good fonts).

I would love to post the actual link, but I'm at work and for some reason gets filtered as a software download site. search for fonts and there should be one 40 MB tar file that has at least a few hundred True-Type fonts. Once They are extracted into a directory I use the KDE Control Center (system tab I think) to install the fonts.

Let me know how it works out.

New fonts are making their way into distros now, recently Jim Gettys for the gnome foundation got some fonts donated from BitStream.

For now though, go to and get the MS fonts, they are pretty good.
