floppy - writing to devices is not supported
Hi Folks,
This question has been asked before, but the person didn't ever get an answer. So here I go. I just installed Mandrake 9.2 a few weeks ago and am just getting around to wanting to copy files to a floppy. When I try to cut and paste from Konquorer, I get the error "writing to devices is not suported." Is this a permissions problem, and if so, how do I give users (me) permission to copy to the floppy drive? Or is it something else ? Any ideas? Thanks a bunch, Nouvellebie |
have you mounted the floppy drive?

ditto similar problem (intermittent) in 9.1; when I cut and paste something to "newfile" using Kate and then try to save it, the procedure is unclear in the pop-up save window. /mnt/floppy/newfile is the obvious choice for save destination but , I often get the unauthorized message; sometimes if I back out carefully (change to the home directory and then remove the floppy and start over and then being careful to insert the write permitted disk before issuing any /mnt/floppy/ , it has worked. But I really don't understand what is going on here. Sorry just a newbie, myself

Yes, it is mounted. I can copy from it just fine. But it appears that nobody has write permission for the drive, if I'm understanding what I see in properties - permissions. But I can't figure out how to change the permissions for the drive, it it's that.

the easiest way: log in as root, open konquerer/nautilus or another file manager, browse to /dev, search for fd0, right-click on this device, and change the permissions so that everybody can write and read it.
