Flash won't work or update Debian Stretch

Okay so extremely new user here. I successfully downloaded Flash non-free after configuring my sources list with the contrib section, however when I went to test it on a site and was prompted to get Flash. I tried updating Flash and this was returned:

Code:
ERROR: wget failed to download http://people.debian.org/~bartm/flashplugin-nonfree/D5C0FC14/fp.24.0.0.194.sha512.amd64.pgp.asc
I'm not sure how to fix this, the website is defunct and I'm not sure what the exact problem is. When I tried to download Flash again it told me there were 351 files not upgraded?

Code:
flashplugin-nonfree is already the newest version (1:3.7).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 351 not upgraded.
Not sure if this means anything either. Help would be much appreciated!

Bug

That is a bug reported by Debian. So this is "expected" behavior.

There is no current fix unforunately https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugr...cgi?bug=851066

The updater sees the version number but it is not actually available to download.

Ah that's unfortunate! I have a hard time believing this but what you're saying is that right now there's no way to update flash on Debian stretch until they patch this?

Also, why doesn't the Flash I just downloaded work? Why does it need to be updated the same day to be used?

It's a checksumming issue. It has cropped up from time to time.

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugr...cgi?bug=851066
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugr...cgi?bug=739685

The workaround is to modify the checksum in the script.

Thank you, but I'm afraid the post you linked doesn't include the specifics. How do you mean to modify the checksums?

[EDIT] The link for the checksums file is also broken.

I'm also still curious as to why I need to update in the first place and my Flash isn't currently functional.

You can install the latest one manually. I tend to use the freshplayerplugin with the PPAPI version. But I limit my install to just one user and use firefox (iceweasel), plus jessie. Just bear in mind that manually doesn't update, so YOU need to keep on top of the security updates, which are often for flash.

For how I install that bit:

Post #10. It's not that complicated, except that I build freshplayer from sources, but skip the make install step. The end result of which is the placement of 4 files, one of which is a config file.

.mozilla/plugins/libfreshwrapper-flashplayer.so
.mozilla/flash/libpepflashplayer.so
.mozilla/flash/manifest.json
.config/freshwrapper.conf
