Thanks for all your non-help. I've been suitably impressed with your use of the lingo but have no clue as to what you are saying. Microsoft does a much better job sorry to say... at least they used to fix my issues.

kronik1961,

I know it can be frustrating (I've well and truly been there, myself!) but the reason that upgrading Ubuntu was suggested, was because if you are using an old version of it; you are more likely to have problems with it. Also old drivers and other software that flash might be using "under the hood".

Also in terms of security, you should try and keep your system up-to date.

I downloaded an old version of Ubuntu myself and had to download the newer version of it, as the old version of it was repeatedly crashing. This solved the problem.

Why don't you tell us if you just upgraded Ubuntu, or done a clean install of Ubuntu?

A clean install means you wiped out the previous installation of Ubuntu.

If not, I suggest you do (including whatever Linux partitions that are also on the drive, you wish to install Ubuntu to).

MAKE SURE you backup anything you wish to keep BEFORE doing ANY of this!

Let us know how this goes!

I couldn't agree more.
