As far as I can tell, I have all the applicable applications and plugins (for this, Debian 5.0.6 installation).
I type in
Code:
about:plugins
in either iceweasel or epiphany browser and get a list that includes:
Code:

There doesn't seem to be anything else to install - I've checked the KDE Add/Remove Applications and the Synaptic Package Manager.
xandercage17, Thank you very much for the suggestion. I followed the instructions at the web site, but at the end, I got this message:
Code:
apt-get install w32codecs libdvdcss2
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package w32codecs is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package w32codecs has no installation candidate
I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling mplayer, but to no avail. Any other suggestions?
Thanks everybody for your help. I floundered around on this quite a bit, using your advice and others. I managed to get the file for adobe flashplayer 10 in the correct directory, but it doesn't show up as working. (I downloaded the .tar.gz file from the Adobe web site, which popped up when I couldn't play a movie. Extracted the file and moved it to the /usr/lib/iceweasel/ and copied over to /usr/lib/epiphany. But to no apparent avail - the same version 9 shows up when I check
Code:
about:plugins
on either browser.) Can anyone please clue me in how to install this properly if what I did was not correct?
One thing I found that worked (apparently for the old version) was to go to the preferences in iceweasel, and change the preferences for plugins to make Shockwave Flash the default.
look in your package manager uninstall flash NOT a conpleat removal
what the system put in
reinstall flash from adobe
now reinstall the extras this should give you 10
