Fitting everything to My desktop in Suse 9.3

I installed suse 9.3 pro on friday and it works great. It is running onmy work laptop a IBM thinkpad r40.
As we all know IBM is not known IBM is not known for their large wonderful screens. In windows I always had the resolution set to 1024x768 and all document and web pages fit perfect as well as menus, icons, and bars did not take up half your screen. Suse has all these settings, but when I try them they are obvously not right. Only 800x600 will work on the screen and everything is way to big and none of the pages fit on the screen.

How can I fix this. I have ran all updates, but am I possibally missing a driver.
Help!

Did you try xorgconf?

as root run /usr/X11R6/bin/xorgconf

I think it's there

go through with it.

Be sure to make a copy of the xorg.conf file in /etc/X11/ directory first, just in case you mess something up

Good luck!
