first time setup of vsftpd on fedora 16 and what are the benefits.
 

Hello everyone. As this forum states I am very new to the Linux world. I am running fedora 16 and want to setup vsftpd. I have viewed a few videos and have gotten started but really could use step by step instructions on how to set up properly and how to access the ftp and can I employ secure socket layer to my ftp. I would also like to know whats the benefits of using a ftp server and what can i do with one. I know I really sound like I know nothing I now very little but want to learn as much as I can. I also have questions about setting up apache and whats the benefits of running my own server but i will save that for another post. Thank yall.

Google gave some good info. just had to research a little further. I found that Ubuntu is probably a better choice for me starting out. I've tried to install it three times without success. I've downloaded iso from Ubuntu site burned to cd when I try to boot form cd it starts to run and then gives an error message something like missing firmware. I'm not sure what else to do I've wasted two cds and one dvd. It says disc is has burned successfully but no success when i try to install. Any suggestions?
