FYI: If you do "set -o vi" in bash it will do shell history similar to the way you're used to doing it in ksh/posix shell on HP-UX.

Also ksh is available for Linux if you prefer - just do "yum install ksh". However, bash is fairly ubiquitous in Linux so its probably better to go ahead and use bash. Most of the scripting in ksh works in bash and vice versa.
