First download using virtualbox

I am new to learning Linux and have been following guidelines in Linux Made Simple "bookazine"

Thought I followed steps correctly but when message comes up "creating process for VM" it sits that way for minutes at a time. Last try was about 15 minutes with no action.

My VM is named Mint, as suggested in the guidelines. Did I miss something?

I assume that you are trying to run linux using VirtualBox on a Windows computer and that you have successfully downloaded and installed VB.

For those that do not have the guide handy what were the steps used to create the Mint guest? What was the step run where you saw the "creating process for VM" message?

Welcome to LinuxQuestions! :)

I assume you mean the Linux Format "Linux made Simple" .pdf?
The short section on page 132/133 introducing VirtualBox doesn't give enough information to guess where the "creating process for VM" message comes from, you need to be more specific about exactly what you did. Did you set up storage to point at your Mint .iso file which you may have downloaded or may be on a DVD?
What did you actually do?

Play Bonny!

Welcome to LQ; VBox is a great idea for 1st-try Linux. :cool:pdf

Does your 'host' Win10 PC have 2-4+GB ram? (I hope it's not this)
How much 'Vram' did you give your Mint guest?

Here's a very 'outside the box' idea to 'test' your Win10 VBox:
this 7MB! (or other) .iso <-click to download guestOS
(96MB Vram ok; no .vdi (Vhdd); Mint needs 1G+ram!)

Here's a VBox forum post that includes a link to *essential info*.

Let us know... Best wishes!!!

what michaelk said.
plus: if you want to try linux in a virtual machine, you really don't need a bookazine for that, it's simple enough.

I am going to start from the beginning, again, and take notes on each step. Hopefully, I will be successful or will be able to explain exactly what steps I took.

Thanks for your responses and suggestions.

Great!!! I wonder what hung the prior VBox at startup...

Enjoy any&all distros, even mll, 7MB extreme opposite of Mint:eek:
Run >1 VM at once! Also maybe VB nets: bridged:cool:; nat port forwarding:o

You can use the ThreadTools/link at top of page to mark Solved.
