To start with you would need to advise if you have just installed a distribution or not?
Which distribution is it?
Were you expecting a graphical login?

At least try and help us to help you.

Your "user name"@"name of machine" appear in a command line prompt. If you something different to appear in the command line prompt then set up an account under the name you want and log into that account. Then that name will appear in the prompt.

what do you mean you have NO NAME?

Didn't your mommy give you a name?

Easy Bash PS1 Generator

check that out , goes in ~/.bashrc
Code:
export PS1='\033[1;31m \@ \033[1;33m(\033[1;34m\W\033[1;33m) \033[1;31m\$ \033[0m'
you can type it in too
Code:
export PS1="\d \@ Scooby-Doo\w\\$ "
open up .bashrc in your home directory, it is a hidden file, so you'll have to select show hidden files with your filemanager, then right click it open it with a text editor then look for the PS1xxxx
comment it out so you don't lose it
Code:
#PS1='\u@\h \W>>\$'
then just copy paste a different one in then save it, open up a new term and take a look if you like it, good. If you want to change it to look at a different one and keep that one just in case then just comment that one out too. then repeat the proccess.

He got a name and the name is "no name".

Try this: chsh -s {shell-name} {user-name}

From this link: http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/howto-c...d-login-shell/
