Firewire PCMCIA to grab DV video

I have Kino and Kdenlive. And I'm shopping for a Firewire PCMCIA card for my laptop. I want to get the video from my Sony digital film camera.

Has anyone done this with linux? Do I need anything more than the card and the application?

I also have a composite-to-USB cable. If I could capture the video via USB it would be okay. Anyone been able to do that?

Ubuntu Intrepid, Dell laptop.

Thanks
