Firewire Audio - Is it possible using ALSA ?

Hi,
I'm wondering if it's possible, to detect and run a firewire audio card. (Terratec Aureon Firewire 7.1 ) Use it in my work (music lol).
I'm realy a newbie @ linux World, i've swithched to Mandrack from Xp resently!
So my question is: can i hope that my Terratec firewire card can sound under linux (Mandrack or any distr ) What may I need to do ( compile sth or use an existing rpm for that) ????

Alsa doens't seem to support firewire !!! neither USB !!! I'm I Wrong ?

BTW: any one knows a good Multitrack audio sequencer (a serius one ) ?

Thax for help .

I don't know what version of Mandrake you are using, but if you are on 10.0,then it might be possible to get it running, coz mandrake has included firewire terratec cards in it's supported list of hardware.Try to see if it is detectd by your system, else get the drivers.
For Multitrack audio,Rosegarden is a powerful app.
But for a pro approach,try Ardour : http://ardour.sourceforge.net.

Don't know whether this can help, but I have a PCI version of Terratec Aureon and
it works with Slackware 10.0. However, I don't know what about Firewire...

One hint - I was using Terratec in Windoze and now in Slackware it seems to sound
better, more clear. Can be this the virtue of better mixing/resampling routines in
Linux/ALSA...?

Well,I'm sorry to say but it seems Mandrake doesn't support sound cards with firewire interfaces. You may try installing the Open Sound System package. It's not free though:
