Good news again, so deleting / renaming .mozilla worked then.

I think on the firefox site there are instructions to recover favourites from the .mozillaold directory if you need to.

You should start your own thread and tell them what os and what you did. Also the source of the package that you downloaded.

acer internet connection

bwatt99 my problem was exact same as yours and i did as was suggested above, show hidden files and just renamed mozilla by adding old to the end of mozilla name, making "mozillaold"
and it worked, on my first connection after fixing it came up install google tool bar, so i did, not sure why that would come up, just mentioned it as you seem to have lost your connection when downloading it.

finally got it back working again but the help of this thread dont know what i was doing wrong now have another issue, well if i can make it that is there a way to get back your favourites,i had loads and seem to have lost them, would be good if i could get them back.

Someone said you could?

And a little off subject is there anything out there that saves your favs on one computer and say stores them and then you can download them to another computer say at a later date, regardless of what computer, laptop desktop or what system, just over the years have had many sites saved and either with computer problems or they computer no longr working or sold on had lost them all, wanna know if there is such a thing out there.

This is good advice, especially for the second part of your question - that's a completely separate issue. The first part of your question is at least relevant. Look in your ~/.mozillaold/firefox directory, you should find a folder called "<something>.default"; mine is called s4rnacto.default. In there, you should find a bookmarkbackups directory containing .json files. These can be imported by going Bookmarks > Organise Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Restore > Choose File and selecting the .json file.

Hope this helps,

he did start his own thread and got virtually zero help . i have on a couple occasions asked perfectly straight forward questions and got little help or advice .
i wish some of you more experienced and knowledgable guys would be a bit more accomadating and not so blunt to newbies . its not that we are too lazy to look for the answer , its that we have very limited knowledge/experience when things go wrong and do not want to mess up our netbooks /pc even further by doing things we do not understand .

There are many problems, I'm afraid:
  • I have a busy life, and much as I would like to help everyone, I don't have the time
  • Some people find it very difficult to write problems in a way that you can understand them - you could spend ages re-reading their posts until you get them, or maybe ask lots of questions that might clarify, or you could just move along to another thread...
  • Some people find it very difficult to write titles in a way that suggest that you can solve their problem - if you read every "HELP!!!" or "Urgent!", you'd waste your life, not to mention all the people who talk about something completely different in their thread title.
  • And, obviously, sometimes you don't have a solution to their problem, nor can you find one on the web for them, nor can you guess at anything which might shed light on the problem.

Obviously, none of these are aimed specifically at anyone, let alone someone on this thread, but they're just a few reasons why questions go unanswered.

That said, I shall go find the thread
