firefox web browser not loading but have a perfect wi-fi connection showing
 

i have a aspire one AOA150 netbook. i have it totally standard ( linux linpus lite ) and was very happy with it as i use it for purely browsing the net when im on my breaks at work.
the problem i have .... it boots up fast and gets my works wi fi perfectly. i then click on the web browser logo and the blue rotating circle starts to load then stops after three or four seconds and just stays on the home sceeen so i cannot access any kind of web pages .
i have spent many hours trying to find a resolve via my home pc . there appear very similar if not identical issues but no one had a cast iron cure .
i did a factory restore last week and it worked for a few days then crashed again yesterday .... please help!
im very inexperienced with all the technical stuff and would greatly appreciate any help or advice to help me get back on the net

launch firefox from the terminal and post the error message

how do i launch firefox in the terminal please !

I don't use LinPus, but according to this site to open the terminal you just need to "go to Files > My Documents to open the File Manager. Then go to File > Terminal"

Once there, all you need to do is type firefox then copy and paste the error message that it prints out :)

I don't have the answer, but I had the same problem in Linpus. I did the factory restore and it seemed to fix it. My theory is it was to do with running an update on it (although firefox was not in the update)

I might see if I can break mine again.

I tend to use another distribution most of the time, also installed on the netbook. You can install that using a USB stick and have the choice of which one you want to use.

i clicked ALT & F2 to bring up terminal bar. typed in exactly what you printed
firefox and the terminal window opened with no wording or lettering whatsoever. just a blank white page. :confused::confused:

You could try the following in the terminal

cd /usr/bin/
firefox -safe-mode

Does it start now?

just this moment tried that thankyou but nothing again... just that big white window

Are you sure that it's not that your home page just got cleared?

The problem is when you try to start Firefox, nothing happens, the egg timer thing swirls for a while then nothing.

When I run firefox from the terminal I also get a blank white screen - however a window opens with firefox in it.

Another thing to try is running it as the 'super user'. This will rule out some other issues, like permissions being wrong. Although I am not very confident it will work.

This will either be:

sudo firefox -safe-mode

or

su
firefox -safe-mode

You will be prompted to enter the password you set when you first used it or did a system restore.

So far, have been unable to get the problem again on my netbook.

this is my exact symptoms as yours.... i tried the first command and yes! i got a firefox safe mode window open and then clicked on the " continue in safe mode " tab , and my google homepage suddenly appeared ... internet at last .
do i have to do this process every time or is a solution outhere !!

if that was the case how would i get it back !!ive been trying for days and days so its not something simple

If it is, just got to a website, double-click on the URL in the address bar to highlight it and then drag it onto the "Homepage" icon next to the bar. You should get a popup asking if you want to set your homepage to whatever site it is :)

Good news, at least it is working.

If you have to do this every time, then that is not good. Apart from being a pain you don't really want to run it as the super user, as it is less secure.

You should try restarting the netbook, as there may have been a problem that firefox has now fixed itself. If it still does not work another thing to look at according to the firefox site is the directory .mozilla (in linux hidden directories are prefixed with "."

close 'firefox'
Open 'File Manager'
Under 'view' tick show hidden files
You can then rename .mozilla to say .mozillaold
see if you can restart Firefox (you will have lost all your favourites etc though)

If it does not work, you can delete the new .mozilla and rename .mozillaold back to .mozilla
